the base of the manicure is a brown ombre. i applied a golden foil right before the base coat dried. the studs were really easy to apply, with the help of the ever helpful nail tip glue. you will have no problem of them falling off for 5-7 days.

you can try to apply top coat over the studs for an even better stay on the nails, but i didn’t use any for this manicure.

you can also get your own black stud rhinestones on bornprettystore at 5.84$/bag, in the Nail Art Decorations category, or this link below:

nail art inspiration: thailand!

as you might have found out already, i’ve spent the most amazing two weeks in thailand at the beginning of the year!

for this special occasion i have created some fierce nails, inspired, of course, by what i believed (with the help of some photos) thailand is. i wasn’t too wrong! as soon as we arrived in bangkok and started walking around, we saw lost and lost of red/gold combinations. a lot of opulence.  it was an impressive scenery, the royal palace, the reclining buddha, or any other temple out there. even if we spent only one day and a half there in bangkok, it was impressive. and my nails where as though as everything else there.

all i see is hearts!

i’m not much of a v-day person (i believe v-day is all year around), but any given occasion to do some fun inspired nails will do!

i did two different sets of cheesy pinkish v-day nails.

my heart [and nails] are in thailand!

i’ve been quiet recently for two reasons. i haven’t done anything special for one, but that is because i took a mini holiday trip with my sis and some friends to thailand. ohhhh what a trip!

we’ve been here in Khao Lak for 3 days now and it’s amazing. the sun, the sand, the salty water, the fishes who bite us in the water, the seashells, the Andamania Beach Resort (this is where we are staying), the swimming pool, the friendly locals, the negotiations, the fresh fruits and i’m not even starting with the thai food! YUUUUM! it’s definitely been worth the 30hr trip from romania to thailand!

but of course i couldn’t leave without my mini mani-kit. (just a few nail polishes and some treatments for the nails)

before leaving i, right after finishing my bags at around 11 in the evening i went straight to making my nails, and damn was i so uninspired,  i used my lovely sponge and created this lovely mani, what i now call ‘the sponged orchid’:

right after i did this sponging with colors i thought represented the thai feeling, i saw pictures of orchids with the exact same colors. that is when the name got invented. 🙂

my cuticles were a little bit tired after the 30hr trip with very little hand creme and a lot of hand sanitizer, but they are getting back in shape as we speak.

detailed photo with a weird stone/shell i found on the beach!

i actually love the combo between normal nail polish and a glittery nail polish, as is the blue layla hologram effect in this nail art. you can see the glitter there and there and i think it looks interesting, also making you thing at the coral reefs or something else aquatic.

with that much swimming and water all around the nail polish started to chip, so i decided to/ had to do something else to my nails.

i used the lovely purple shade of china glaze- flying dragon, for a simple mani, and afterwards i went on a seashell hunt. i found these lovelies:

of course they were matching my nail polish color.

please don’t hate me right about now. 🙂

and for my toe nails i used my new favorite layla ‘ocean rush’ hologram effect. love, love, love the blue/sandy brown color combo!

i’ve been drafting this post for 5 days now, time in which we moved our accommodation to Koh Lanta, went snorkeling in the similan islands and phi phi islands (where ‘the beach’ was filmed) and discovered and done soooo many things this post is not enough. tomorrow is our last day. but i promise as soon as i get home to a good internet connection i will let you know in pictures exactly how my trip was.

flocking (my way into the new year) powder

i wanted to use flocking powder(velvet on your nails, or chicken finger nails as some of my friends would call it 🙂 ) for some time now, and that is why i decided to make myself a flocking christmas gift from bornprettystore last year. after the new year’s eve i immediately got to work on the flocking powder nails.

it was an interesting process of making them, it took quite the time but they definitely looked great at the end.  Continue reading

Layla ‘ocean rush’ hologram effect – swatch and review

i recently received a christmas present from a romanian nail polish supplier, Beauty in the Bottle. the present contained two china glaze nail polishes, a color club nail polish, and this lovely Layla hologram effect nail polish.

photo (50)

it was the first time i have used nail polish with hologram effect and i didn’t know what to expect. i mean i saw ten’s of reviews and photos on these kind of polishes, but i have never seen it on my own fingernails. that is why i think i didn’t apply it correctly, as i haven’t experienced the hologram effect in fully. but the color looks awesome though, the formula is a little bit odd as it needed 3 coats for it to be fully opaque. the end result is fabfabfab! i would definitely buy more of these hologram effect nail polishes now. maybe from other brands also. what would you recommend me to buy?

here are some more photos of the ocean rush.

i also did a .gif image of this layla nail polish. check it out here. i love playing with .gif images, which are declared a form of art now a days.

stay tuned for some more designs and reviews as i did a lot of nails over these few holiday days.

b-bye 2012, hellooo 2013!

the last post of 2012 should be a spectacular one. but i’m am on the run and i promise i will make up for it at the end of 2013, when i will probably have more exciting things to share with you!

i would like to thank each and every one of you for reading my blog, for the support and feedback; who would have guessed i would start a blog of nail art because of a silly nail polish obsession? i’ll try and do my best in 2013 in keeping flowynails updated constantly, in creating interesting and fun designs for you to enjoy.

for tonight i will be rocking some china glaze ‘pizzazz’ glittery tips, over a white base of maybelline colorama. i will post more pics next year (haha, i like using this expression), ’till then have a great new year’s eve, with a lot of booze and a sweet ol’ midnight kiss!

cheers to 2013!

christmas trees all over!

hi guys! hope you had fantastic holidays together with your loved ones, cause i certainly did.

for some years now though, my lazy parents stopped making the festive christmas tree, and believe it or not, christmas without a christmas tree is like painting your nails without applying the base & top coat. and that is why i created my own christmas spirit, this year on my nails.

SL736212

christmas trees on the nails weren’t a big surprise in this years holiday nail art trend, but i don’t think anybody was that obsessed with christmas tress. i took ’em to another level. :))

cosmic nails!

this is yet another lazy nail post. i am a fan of the cosmic nails. did them once on a nail wheel, but i wanted to give it a try on all of my nails. it was definitely time consuming as it takes a lot to let each coat dry in order for the ‘sponge-ing’ to take effect and mix all of the cosmic effects on to the nails.

photo (23)

the quality of the photo isn’t good, but i didn’t have the chance to take good photos for this mani. i will definitely give it another try, cosmic nails are a hit wherever you wanna take ’em.

cheers,

f.

the christmas spirit is here!

winter has come early this year in romania. we had it snowing and snowing and snowing for several days, that is why my home town and timisoara look like a winter wonderland.
